PAOLO BIG INTERVIEW

Funlovingnightly:
1) So, let’s try to be original: have you started playing records cause it made you feel “cool” or was there a true interest for music since the beginning ?

A: It was only passion for music, actually: when I was 14 I started going to the disco, and while friends where looking for girls I was spending my time behind the dome ( or console), just to see the dj working; all that equipment was completely attracting me, like playing records, make people dance...

Funlovingnightly:
2) Were you only a dj playing someone else’s recorDs or did you have the satisfaction of seeing your name un a record, and to hear people applauding as the vocalist inform them that the music they’re dancing is your last creation?
A: I truly had satisfactions of this kind, both in just playing recors and in hearing the vocalist presenting my last RMX. And people applauding, dancing, those things are pure adrenaline...

Funlovingnightly:

3) Do you just listen to your gender of music or is it also possible to find you listening on your iPOD POP or classic music?
A: I don’t have an iPOD. I listen every kind of music at the radio, without problem. Music is my passion, any kind.

Funlovingnightly:

4) And a part from electronic stuff full of lights and LEDs, are you able to play a more traditional instrument?
A: No, I just use samplers. A Roland keyboard has been given me as a present, and I’d really like to learn to use it. So by the way, I use this space you’re giving me to ask if there’s someone, in Milan zone, who’s available for giving me some lessons...

Funlovingnightly:
5) Vinyl or compact disc?

A: I’d rather say vinyl, it gives me much more satisfaction, but if needed I use CDs with no problem

Funlovingnightly:
6) Do you use to burn other people’s CDs?

A: Not at all! I use to download everything from Beatport and so on.. I pay everything!!

Funlovingnightly:

7) What’s the thing satisfying you more during a set?
A: when I’m coming down the console, people congratulating with me..

Funlovingnightly:

8) And the most frustrating one?
A: Definitly when some idiot come asking me: can you play this... or this...

Funlovingnightly:

9) Do you ever bring till red the light in the mixer?
A: Always.

Funlovingnightly:

10) Now that in italian clubs it is not allowed anymore tosmoke, fo you adapt yourself to the rule or do you just care nothis, as anyway a dj is important and for sure he’s allowed to have a cig?
A: I mostly work abroad, where this problem is not present yet. In Italy I don’t smoke hided. I respect rules. I definitly can wait.

Funlovingnightly:

11)What about your name? Where does it come from? Did you create it or did someone assign it to you?
A: It’s a pretty long story; my promoter changed it to me three times for marketing reasons. Paolo Big is the last he gave me, I like it and am going to keep it.
